NATO Special Representative believes reforms will help to strengthen Georgia's defense

The two-day international conference opened in Batumi mainly focused on the situation in Afghanistan, the reforms in the sphere of defense and security of Georgia and the future plans.

"The main issue of our discussion is Afghanistan," NATO Special Representative for South Caucasus Robert Simmons participating in the conference told journalists.

Simmons also met with Georgian Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia under the conference.

Simmons said he listened to Akhalaia's report on reforms and expressed hope for their successful implementation. "We believe these reforms will help in strengthening the defense of Georgia," Simmons said.

The conference participants will discuss the Georgia- NATO relations and the future plans, as well as the concept of security and an overview paper on the defensive.
