Georgia Maintains Wedding and Natality Growth Tendency

Georgia has maintained the wedding and natality index growth tendency, Giorgi Vashadze, deputy Justice Minister and chairperson of the civil registry agency, noted at a news conference on July 7.

Vashadze pointed out the last years have recorded continuous growth in wedding and birthrate indexes. Namely, 46 060 birth registrations were made in 2006, 48 027 - in 2007, 57 263 - in 2008 and 61 839 - in 2009.

January-May 2010 registered 25 153 newborn, while the figure made up 23 772 in January-May 2009.

CRA says the ratio of male newborn prevails over the female birthrate.

As to weddings, 21 876 registrations were made in 2006, 25 925 - in 2007, 31 310 - in 2008 and 31 319 - in 2009.

The period of January-May 2009 registered 11 833 weddings, while the figure marked 12 877 in January-May 2010. At this stage, the period recorded 1 740 divorces.

Vashadze asserts the growth in weddings and birthrate is related to the improvement of economic situation in the country, as Georgia has left the crisis period and this a good precondition to improve the demographic state of the country.
